چکیده

We present a simple technique to improve the perception of an object’s shape. Bump mapping is well known in the computer graphics community for providing the impression of small-scale geometrical features, which are not explicitly modelled. Here, we propose a similar approach (variation of normals) for the purpose of enhancing the perception of a given geometry. Our approach is based on a simple modification of the surface normals in order to enhance the geometric features of the object during the rendering. The enhanced normals produced by this approach can be used in any rendering technique. The technique presented is particularly well suited to improve the rendering of mechanical parts where common straightforward shading techniques can often generate shading ambiguities. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Hardware-Accelerated Interactive Illustrative Stipple Drawing of Polygonal Objects

Pen and ink rendering techniques provide artistic, illustrative, and informative representations of objects. With recent advances in hardware graphics technology, several researchers have developed interactive non-photorealistic rendering techniques, including hatching, toon rendering, and silhouettes. However, the stippling method of drawing and shading using dots has not received as much focu...

NPR Lenses: Interactive Tools for Non-Photorealistic Line Drawings

NPR Lenses is an interactive technique for producing expressive non-photorealistic renderings. It provides an intuitive visual interaction tool for illustrators, allowing them to seamlessly apply a large variety of emphasis techniques. Advantages of 3D scene manipulation are combined with the capabilities of viewer-aligned lenses by inserting 2D lens controls into the 3D rendering pipeline. By ...

Edge-Enhancement - An Algorithm for Real-Time Non-Photorealistic Rendering

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for enhancing edges of real-time non-photorealistic renderings. It is based on the edge map, a 2D texture that encodes visually important edges of 3D scene objects, and includes silhouette edges, border edges, and crease edges. The edge map allows us to derive and augment a wide range of nonphotorealistic rendering styles. Furthermore, the algorithm is des...

Interactive Non - Photorealistic Technical Illustration

Current interactive modeling systems allow users to view models in wireframe or Phong-shaded images. However, the wireframe is based on the model's parameterization, and a model's features may get lost in a nest of lines. Alone, a fully rendered image may not provide enough useful information about the structure or model features. Human technical illustrators follow certain visual conventions t...

A Hybrid Approach to Real-Time Abstraction

To faithfully represent a scene through non-photorealistic rendering (NPR), it is vital that all available scene data be taken into account. We present an automatic hybrid framework for creating abstractions of 3D scenes in real-time. Our approach uses a combination of object-space and image-space information to produce stylistic and reliable results. Calculations using scene vertex data are co...
